CULTURE PERSPECTIVES

A group of people may have different perceptions toward a specific topic, movie, book, discussion etc, this happened with the documental “The Corporation” that was analyzed by few teams of four, five people in class and allowed each member to express her/himself opinion about it. It’s incredible how different those opinions might be and an important factor is to know how to listen and learn how to be argumentative with your own answers and thoughts. It’s important to keep your mind open to new ideas and other perceptions.

This last idea lead us to Kristian Jakobsen, a person who give us a very interesting lecture about culture perspectives comparing Colombian culture with Denmark culture trough Hofstede dimensions. Is different listen a person who has grown within a different culture than just read about it on a book or search data trough Internet. His experience and speech was a great added value to the class specially because of the results of the comparison made, that showed that both cultures are extremely opposite in each dimension. By understanding the backgrounds of each society is possible to explain certain kind of behavior, or why people is individualistic or why a high masculinity behavior exist. Is a very interesting exercise that could be applied to compare Colombia with other different countries and learn more about other cultures.
